We Wash Our Hands—Every Day!
At a bustling primary school in Migori County, laughter filled the air as students gathered around a new handwashing station. Leading the group was Mercy, an IHOPE volunteer, teaching the children a fun, step-by-step song to remember proper handwashing techniques.
“Before this, many of us didn’t wash our hands after using the toilet or before eating,” says Brian, a Class 5 pupil. “Now, we know why it matters—and we even teach our parents at home!”
This demonstration is part of IHOPE Foundation’s School WASH Program, which has already reached 2,000+ students with hygiene education, built 30 handwashing stations, and sparked real behavior change through interactive tools like PHAST, CHAST, and Child-to-Child methods.
The result? Fewer sick days, better attendance—especially for girls—and healthier schools. “I feel proud when I see these kids teaching others what they’ve learned,” Mercy smiles.
By turning schools into hubs for hygiene transformation, IHOPE is creating ripple effects in entire communities—one clean hand at a time.
Because healthy habits start with simple actions—and every child deserves a clean, safe place to learn.
