Sexual and Reproductive Health & Rights (SRHR)
Despite the Kenyan Ministry of Health’s ongoing efforts to promote youth and adolescent sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services, significant barriers persist. These include:
- Limited accessto essential SRH information and services,
- Unprepared healthcare providerswho lack the skills to engage young people sensitively, and
- Weak implementationof youth-friendly policies, leaving the unique needs of adolescents unaddressed.
IHOPE Foundation recognizes that prioritizing adolescent and youth SRH is critical to achieving universal health coverage (UHC). This aligns with Article 43(1)(a) of Kenya’s Constitution (2010), which guarantees every citizen the right to the highest attainable standard of health, including reproductive health services.
Investing in accessible, youth-friendly SRH services yields far-reaching benefits—improving health outcomes, education retention, and socio-economic development. Since 2013, IHOPE Foundation has worked in and out of schools across Siaya, Migori and Homa Bay counties, tackling SRH challenges through innovative approaches.
To date, we have:
- Engaged 4,000+ boys and girls with accurate SRH information,
- Leveraged sports platforms to foster open discussions, and
- Connected youth to confidential support via toll-free hotlines (Aunty Jane) for counselling and referrals.
Bridging gaps in education, access, and provider competency, we empower young people to make informed, healthy choices—building a foundation for Kenya’s future.
